Garry Van Gerpen is Vice President of Scientific Services. He oversees six of the support departments at the Institute including Facility Services, Information Technology, Security, Safety, Telecomm Services, and the Animal Research Department. Additionally, he is responsible for all capital construction at Salk.

Prior to assuming the position of Vice President in 2007, Mr. Van Gerpen served as the Institute's Senior Director of Facility Services (1997 - 2007) Assistant Director of Facility Services, (1991-2007) and Facility Services Supervisor (1988-1991). Before coming to Salk, he owned and operated a general contracting and construction company in north central Iowa.

Mr. Van Gerpen holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa.
