LA JOLLA—The Salk Institute today announced the appointment of Fred Luddy, founder of ServiceNow, to its Board of Trustees.
“Fred’s innovative spirit and experience in technological advancement align well with Salk’s mission to advance high-impact science, especially our ambitions in biocomputation,” says Salk President 杰拉尔德·乔伊斯. “We are excited to welcome him to our Board and look forward to the unique perspective he will bring.”

Under Luddy’s leadership, ServiceNow, a leading intelligent platform driving end-to-end digital transformation, became the fastest-growing enterprise software company to achieve more than $10 billion in annual revenue organically.
During his nearly 20-year tenure with ServiceNow, Luddy has held several leadership roles, including CEO from 2004 to 2011. He has served as a member of the company’s board of directors since 2004, including as board chair from 2018 to 2022.
Prior to founding ServiceNow in 2004, Luddy worked at Amdahl Corporation, co-founded Enterprise Software, and served as chief technology officer at Peregrine Systems. He attended Indiana University but left before graduating to dedicate more time to programming.
Today, Luddy continues to innovate as a technology visionary, focusing on projects to revolutionize spreadsheets and improve the diagnosis and treatment of rare genetic diseases in children. A committed philanthropist, he supports numerous causes, including Indiana University, where his contributions have led to the construction and expansion of the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.
Luddy has been recognized with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2011) and Indiana University’s Bicentennial Medal (2020).
“I am honored to join the Salk Institute’s Board of Trustees,” says Luddy. “The Institute’s dedication to groundbreaking scientific research is inspiring, and I look forward to contributing to its continued success.”
