Salk Institute Elects Gerald L. Parsky to its Board of Trustees

La Jolla, CA – The Salk Institute today announced the election of Gerald L. Parsky to its Board of Trustees. The Board unanimously approved the appointment at its recent meeting in New York City.

The former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, Parsky is chairman and partner of the Los Angeles-based Aurora Capital Group (ACG) and serves as an advisor on the Board of Directors for real estate developer The Irvine Company.

Parsky also has a long history with the University of California system. He has served as a Trustee of the UCSD Foundation and served on the Board of Visitors for the Anderson Graduate School of Business at UCLA. In 1996, Governor Pete Wilson appointed Parsky to the UC Board of Regents, on which he served as Chairman from 2004-2007.

“Gerald Parsky’s stellar background in law, the financial sector, and his service to higher education in California highly complements the Salk Institute’s Board,” said Irwin M. Jacobs, chairman of Salk’s Board of Trustees. “We are honored to have him join our esteemed group of business and scientific leaders.”

Parsky was affiliated for 13 years with the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where he was a senior partner and member of the executive and management committees. In 1968, Parsky began his law career with Mudge Rose Guthrie & Alexander in New York City before serving as an official with the Treasury Department and Federal Energy Office from 1971-1974.

A native of Connecticut, Parsky received his bachelor’s degree in English from Princeton University and his JD from the University of Virginia Law School. He was admitted to the Bar in 1969 (New York City); 1974 (Washington D.C.); and 1983 (California).

Other organizations Parsky is involved with include: the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton, where he is on the advisory council; and the George Bush Presidential Library and Ronald Reagan Presidential foundations, where he serves as Trustee.
