Out of Jonas Salk\u2019s vision, the Institute&#8217;s Education Outreach department was born. Its mission is threefold:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 50px;\">\n<li><strong>To teach<\/strong> students, teachers, and the community about scientific literacy in addition to the role of basic biological research in our world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To inspire<\/strong> enthusiasm and interest in advanced levels of science instruction, and particularly in science as a career.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To promote<\/strong> public awareness of Salk and the value of basic research as it relates to career readiness, critical thinking skills, and the development of an informed citizenry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Salk Education Outreach serves San Diego county students of all ages through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/about\/education-outreach\/programs\/\"><strong>core programs<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"padding-left: 50px;\">\n<li><strong>High School Science Day<\/strong> &#8211; [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/about\/education-outreach\/programs\/high-school-science-day\/\">link<\/a>]<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heithoff-Brody High School Summer Scholars<\/strong> &#8211; [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/about\/education-outreach\/programs\/high-school-scholars\/\">link<\/a>]<\/li>\n<li><strong>Salk STEM Educators Summit<\/strong> &#8211; [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/about\/education-outreach\/programs\/salk-stem-educators-summit\/\">link<\/a>]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These programs are offered at no cost to students, teachers, and schools, thereby reducing economic barriers to high quality STEM education. Over the past 40 years, Salk Education Outreach has delivered innovative, engaging STEM learning experiences to thousands of students.
