Salk\u2019s Conquering Cancer Initiative is a scientific and philanthropic initiative to bring together scientists in collaboration to harness new strategies against five deadly cancers: pancreatic, ovarian, lung, brain (glioblastoma) and triple negative breast. Together, Salk researchers will identify cancer\u2019s vulnerabilities and find new methods to attack tumors and leave healthy tissues alone. <\/p>\n

Conquering Cancer Initiative Strategic Fund<\/strong> \nCancer Center Director\u2019s Fund<\/strong> \nTranslational Discovery Fund<\/strong> Why give now?<\/strong>
\nThe Conquering Cancer Initiative Strategic Fund provides support for the highest priorities
\noutlined in the Conquering Cancer Initiative Strategic Plan. Projects may include purchasing
\ncritical equipment to keep up with the pace of technology, seed funding for laboratory research
\nand pilot projects, and bridge funding.\n<\/p>\n
\nThis fund will support training, seminars, scientific advisory board activities, symposia
\nand training programs for high school students interested in careers in science and medicine,
\nhosting undergraduates in research laboratories for internships during the summer, and
\nproviding support for graduate students, postdoctoral scientists and research fellows.
\nThanks to the dollar-for-dollar challenge made possible by Corinne Mentzelopoulos, every
\ndollar to the Director\u2019s Fund will be doubled, up to $1 million.\n<\/p>\n
\nThe Translational Discovery Fund provides starter funds that will support projects specifically
\nfocused on the translation of laboratory and\/or clinical research into new interventions that
\nimprove outcomes for patients. Particular focus will be on the development of new therapies
\n(medications, nutrition, behavioral interventions, etc.) or diagnostics, new approaches to
\nprevention or translation of knowledge. This funding is critical for the long-term growth of
\nthe Cancer Center at the Salk Institute.\n<\/p>\n
