The award, along with a similar grant honoring Rep. John Lewis, was announced Sunday, April 11, during AACR&#8217;s annual meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are thrilled Dannie&#8217;s cancer research is continuing to receive notable recognition and support,\u201d says Salk President Rusty Gage. &#8220;The dedication of early-career researchers like Dannie is changing the future of pancreatic cancer diagnosis and treatment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Each year, more than 45,000 Americans lose their lives to pancreatic cancer\u2014now the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths with a five-year relative survival rate of 10 percent. Through these awards, the Lustgarten Foundation and the AACR seek to help close the gap in the number of early-career women and under-represented scientists applying for and receiving funding to conduct research leading to a better understanding and treatment of pancreatic cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI truly appreciate the Lustgarten Foundation for recognizing my work in this generous way,\u201d says Engle, a member of Salk\u2019s National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Salk Cancer Center. \u201cThis support will accelerate my lab\u2019s work in finding better treatment options for people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","faculty":[345],"disease-research":[279,46,172],"class_list":["post-30413","disclosure","type-disclosure","status-publish","hentry","faculty-dannielle-engle","disease-research-awards","disease-research-cancer-biology","disease-research-pancreatic-cancer"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
