LA JOLLA\u2013The Salk Institute is pleased to announce the election of Edwin K. Hunter<\/a>, a longtime supporter of the Institute and president of Hunter, Hunter & Sonnier, LLC<\/a>, to its Board of Trustees. The Board voted on the appointment August 28. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cEdwin\u2019s expertise in tax law, estate planning and philanthropy make him a valuable asset to our board,\u201d says Salk Board Chairman Irwin M. Jacobs. \u201cIn addition, he comes into this role with a great deal of familiarity with the Institute having served as chairman of Salk\u2019s yearly Tax Seminar for the past five years, and establishing the Edwin K. Hunter Chair in Molecular Biology in 2013.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nIn 2014, Louisiana State University<\/a> established the Edwin K. Hunter Chair in Communications, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the LSU Free Speech Alley that Mr. Hunter created while an undergraduate student at LSU. Also a graduate of the LSU Law School, he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and edited the Louisiana Law Review. <\/p>\n

\nMr. Hunter currently practices law in Louisiana and is a member of the Louisiana, Texas and District of Columbia bars. As a Board Certified Tax Attorney, he conducts talks on tax law, estate planning and philanthropy, and is a published author on these topics. In addition, Mr. Hunter has served as a director of companies in the fields of cardiology, orthopedics, stem cell research and nutraceuticals. He is also a founding director of the Community Clinic of Southwest Louisiana and the Community Foundation for Southwest Louisiana. <\/p>\n

\nMr. Hunter serves as a trustee for the Joe W. and Dorothy Dorsett Brown Foundation<\/a>, the Fritz Lang Foundation<\/a>, the Olive Tupper Foundation<\/a> and the Chambers Medical Foundation.
