Las mitocondrias tambi\u00e9n participan en la comunicaci\u00f3n celular y la inmunidad a trav\u00e9s de v\u00edas que reci\u00e9n se est\u00e1n comenzando a identificar. Pueden ocurrir problemas musculares y neurol\u00f3gicos cuando las mitocondrias funcionan mal, ya sea por una mutaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9tica hereditaria o por el desgaste que ocurre con la edad.
