Para este proyecto, los cient\u00edficos del centro recolectar\u00e1n muestras de piel de los participantes vivos del Rancho Bernardo Study, cuyas trayectorias individuales de envejecimiento han sido seguidas y medidas durante muchos a\u00f1os. Utilizando tecnolog\u00eda de c\u00e9lulas madre, los investigadores podr\u00e1n transformarlas en otros tipos de c\u00e9lulas, como m\u00fasculo card\u00edaco, neuronas o c\u00e9lulas hep\u00e1ticas, para estudios dirigidos a comprender mejor la complejidad del envejecimiento celular. Los impulsores celulares del envejecimiento incluyen, por ejemplo: da\u00f1o al ADN, inflamaci\u00f3n, acortamiento de tel\u00f3meros (capuchas protectoras al final de los cromosomas) y da\u00f1o a las mitocondrias (centrales energ\u00e9ticas celulares). El enfoque permitir\u00e1 a los cient\u00edficos comprender los impulsores celulares del envejecimiento que potencialmente pueden ser dirigidos como intervenciones personalizadas para mejorar la resiliencia y aumentar la esperanza de vida saludable (el n\u00famero de a\u00f1os de vida sana).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQueremos proveer un banco de diversos tipos de c\u00e9lulas de individuos que representen la variabilidad del envejecimiento normal, que pueda ser utilizado por investigadores de todo el mundo\u201d, dice el Profesor Salk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/es\/scientists\/gerald-shadel\/\">Gerald Shadel<\/a>, director del Centro Nathan Shock de San Diego. \u201cLo que hace que esta iniciativa sea tan \u00fanica es que ahora estamos accediendo a c\u00e9lulas de adultos mayores con un historial documentado de m\u00e9tricas de envejecimiento normales, lo que permitir\u00e1 a los investigadores del envejecimiento conectar por primera vez cambios celulares espec\u00edficos con otros cambios fisiol\u00f3gicos relacionados con la edad\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>El Estudio Rancho Bernardo sobre el Envejecimiento Saludable se estableci\u00f3 entre 1972 y 1974, cuando aproximadamente el 80 por ciento de los residentes adultos de Rancho Bernardo, un suburbio de San Diego, se inscribieron. Hasta ahora, los investigadores han documentado principalmente los estilos de vida de los participantes del estudio, revelando mucho sobre c\u00f3mo factores como la dieta, el ejercicio y la educaci\u00f3n afectan la salud de una persona en etapas posteriores de la vida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl envejecimiento es complejo.
