En las \u00faltimas dos d\u00e9cadas, los estudios han indicado que los astrocitos desempe\u00f1an funciones cruciales en el desarrollo y las enfermedades del sistema nervioso. Sin embargo, se comprende mucho menos c\u00f3mo estas c\u00e9lulas interact\u00faan con las neuronas en el cerebro adulto sano.<\/p>\n<p>En Salk, Nimmerjahn ha desarrollado nuevas t\u00e9cnicas de microscop\u00eda para visualizar la din\u00e1mica estructural y funcional de c\u00e9lulas neuronales y no neuronales, tinciones espec\u00edficas de tipos celulares y herramientas de an\u00e1lisis de datos a gran escala. Utilizando estas tecnolog\u00edas, \u00e9l y sus colaboradores abordan preguntas de larga data sobre el papel de las c\u00e9lulas no neuronales en el sistema nervioso central humano sano o enfermo para proteger o restaurar su funci\u00f3n.
