His lab has found that hundreds to thousands of genes in our genome turn on and off in different organs at specific times during the 24-hour day. His body of work suggests that there may be optimal times for activities such as eating, sleeping and working out that, in turn, reduce tissue damage and promote optimal healing to sustain high performance.<\/p>\n<p>As one of four \u201cscientific moonshoots\u201d being led by a team of faculty collaborators from different disciplines and multiple institutions across the country as part of the Human Performance Alliance, the Molecular Athlete moonshot is based at the Salk Institute. The Salk team will work on uncovering the molecular signatures of performance, and will collaborate with teams at UC San Diego, Stanford University, the University of Kansas, the University of Oregon, and Boston Children\u2019s Hospital to translate scientific findings into practice.<\/p>\n<p>Other Salk faculty on the moonshot team include Professor and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/es\/scientist\/joseph-ecker\/\">Joseph Ecker<\/a>; Assistant Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/es\/scientist\/dannielle-engle\/\">Dannielle Engle<\/a>; and Professors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/es\/scientist\/susan-kaech\/\">Susan\u00a0Kaech<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/es\/scientist\/joseph-noel\/\">Jos\u00e9 Noel<\/a> y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/es\/scientist\/alan-saghatelian\/\">Alan Saghatelian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Human Performance Alliance involves three large public universities and three private institutions: Stanford University, UC San Diego, the University of Kansas, Boston Children\u2019s Hospital, the University of Oregon and the Salk Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The data generated by the Human Alliance will be freely available globally, to ensure its commitment to collaboration, diversity and inclusivity.<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","faculty":[111,345,42,102,105,311],"disease-research":[123],"class_list":["post-31396","disclosure","type-disclosure","status-publish","hentry","faculty-alan-saghatelian","faculty-dannielle-engle","faculty-joseph-ecker","faculty-joseph-noel","faculty-satchidananda-panda","faculty-susan-kaech","disease-research-metabolism-and-diabetes"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
