Visitors are not permitted to park on Salk property, and public parking will be severely limited around the Salk Institute. We strongly advise public transportation or ride-share as an option. Please ensure that you allow for extra travel time. Due to capacity, there may be limits on the number of visitors allowed on campus. To ensure your spot is confirmed, please register for a self-guided or docent-led tour in advance.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr \/>\n\n\n\n--><\/p>\n<h2>Besuch in Salk<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Salk Institute has been described as one of the most significant architectural sites in the United States and has garnered accolades for its design and preservation. Salk\u2019s original buildings, designed by preeminent American architect Louis Kahn in collaboration with founder Jonas Salk in the early 1960s, were declared a historical landmark in 1991.<\/p>\n<p><!-- For the safety of our guests and employees and to help preserve the integrity and dignity of Salk\u2019s historic architecture, self-guided tours will no longer be available to the public as of January 1, 2024. Visitors are welcome to visit our campus by pre-registering for docent-led architecture tours (details below). --> The Institute is closed to visitors on weekends, holidays, and for private events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pre-registration is required for all visitors. We encourage guests to use free parking along Torrey Pines Scenic Drive or in the Gliderport parking lot. Paid public parking is available at the Sanford Consortium lot, which is located just across the street from the Salk Institute. The current fee is $3\/hour.<\/p>\n<p>If you plan to drive your own vehicle, please allow an extra 15-20 minutes to park.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/salk-institute-campus-parking-map-v1.3.pdf\">Click here to view the parking map \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>PHOTO AND VIDEO POLICY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Guidelines for photography and videography at the Salk must be adhered to by all visitors. These are not all-inclusive. Salk staff\/security reserve the right to ask any visitor to leave if they determine that their behavior is in violation of photo policy or is disruptive to the Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Professional\/Commercial photography and filming for purposes of theatrical release, industrial use and public service announcements is <strong>not permitted<\/strong> while on a tour. All requests to use images and\/or video for commercial, media, or professional use must be approved by the communications office through <a href=\"mailto:press@salk.edu\">press@salk.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/de\/news\/photography-policy\/\">Click here to read more \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>CONSERVATION EFFORTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Built in the early 1960s, the Salk Institute is revered around the world as a modern architectural treasure. In July 2017, Salk Institute announced with the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI) that conservation efforts were complete for one of the key architectural elements at the Salk Institute\u2014its teak window walls. The project offered Salk an opportunity to be proactive in maintaining and conserving the teak for the next 50 years.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.salk.edu\/de\/news-release\/getty-conservation-institute-salk-institute-announce-completion-major-conservation-efforts\/\">Learn more about the teak project here \u00bb<\/a>.
