Zellen nutzen molekulare Motoren, um essenzielle G\u00fcter f\u00fcr die richtige Zellfunktion zu transportieren. Diese hochdynamischen, energiegetriebenen molekularen Maschinen bewegen sich entlang eines zellul\u00e4ren Autobahnsystems \u2013 dem Zytoskelett \u2013 und transportieren Fracht wie Organellen, Vesikel, mRNA und Viren.<\/p>\n<p>Kendricks Labor wird fortschrittliche bildgebende Verfahren wie die kryoelektronenmikroskopie (Kryo-EM) in Kombination mit Methoden der Einzelmolek\u00fcl- und Lebendzellbildgebung einsetzen, um die Funktionsprinzipien dieser Motoren zu entschl\u00fcsseln. Der multidisziplin\u00e4re Ansatz wird es ihrem Team erm\u00f6glichen, aufzudecken, wie Zellen wichtige Materialien transportieren und wie die Regulierung oder St\u00f6rung dieses Transports Krankheiten verhindert oder dazu beitr\u00e4gt.<\/p>\n<p>Transportst\u00f6rungen werden mit Krebs und zahlreichen neurologischen Erkrankungen, darunter Alzheimer, in Verbindung gebracht. Dennoch verstehen Forscher noch nicht vollst\u00e4ndig, wie Motoren funktionieren, um Substanzen in der Zelle zu transportieren. Kendrick hofft, die Mechanismen zu beleuchten, die zellul\u00e4re Motoren aufrechterhalten, und mit anderen Fakult\u00e4tsmitgliedern des Salk Institute zusammenzuarbeiten, um ihre Erkenntnisse auf die Immunologie, die Krebsforschung und die Neurowissenschaften auszudehnen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAls Strukturbiologe interessiere ich mich f\u00fcr molekulare Wechselwirkungen \u2013 ein unglaublich breites Forschungsgebiet, das dem kollaborativen Stil des Salk-Instituts sehr entgegenkommt\u201d, sagt Kendrick. \u201cDer beste Weg, die Wissenschaft voranzutreiben, ist, Gemeinschaftsbeziehungen aufzubauen und mit Menschen zu sprechen. Man wei\u00df vielleicht gar nicht, mit wem man zusammenarbeiten kann, bis man anf\u00e4ngt, Gespr\u00e4che zu f\u00fchren und eine Gemeinschaft aufzubauen, und das Salk-Institut ist ein ausgezeichneter Ort daf\u00fcr.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kendrick kommt vom Salk Institute an die UC San Diego, wo sie ihre Postdoc-Forschung in Samara Reck-Petersons Labor absolvierte. Ihren Bachelor-Abschluss in Chemie erwarb sie an der Universit\u00e4t Breslau in Polen, bevor sie nach Colorado reiste, um dort ihren Master-Abschluss in Chemie und ihre Promotion in Strukturbiologie und Biochemie an der CU Denver abzuschlie\u00dfen. Sie hat zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und Ehrungen erhalten, darunter die Ernennung zum Leading Edge Symposium Fellow, die Ruth L.
