\u201cWir freuen uns au\u00dferordentlich, dass John zum AAAS Fellow 2022 ernannt wurde\u201d, sagt der Pr\u00e4sident des Salk Instituts Rostiger Gage.<\/a> \u201cEr ist ein weltweit f\u00fchrender Experte in der Erforschung dessen, wie das Gehirn die Au\u00dfenwelt wahrnimmt und uns dadurch erm\u00f6glicht, mit unserer Umwelt zu interagieren. Diese Nominierung ist eine prestigetr\u00e4chtige Anerkennung seiner wissenschaftlichen Fortschritte in der Neurowissenschaft.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reynolds, Inhaber des Fiona and Sanjay Jha Lehrstuhls f\u00fcr Neurowissenschaften, nutzt computergest\u00fctzte Modellierung, visuelle Psychophysik, Messung elektrischer Eigenschaften in Zellen, hochaufl\u00f6sende Bildgebung und modernste optogenetische Techniken (Steuerung neuronaler Aktivit\u00e4t mit Licht), um die Gehirnmechanismen zu untersuchen, die an Wahrnehmung und Bewusstsein beteiligt sind. Seine Arbeit hat zur Entwicklung eines vereinheitlichenden Rahmens f\u00fcr das Verst\u00e4ndnis der Aufmerksamkeitsauswahl im Gehirn gef\u00fchrt. Zuletzt, seine Gruppe entdeckte<\/a> Muster neuronaler Signale, sogenannte wandernde Gehirnwellen, existieren im visuellen System des wachen Gehirns und sind so organisiert, dass sie dem Gehirn erm\u00f6glichen, Objekte wahrzunehmen, die schwach oder anderweitig schwer zu sehen sind.<\/p>\n

Reynolds leitet auch ein Forscherteam, das die neuronalen Mechanismen untersucht, die dem altersbedingten kognitiven Verfall zugrunde liegen. Diese Arbeit, die teilweise durch ein $1,2 Millionen US-Dollar aus der Larry L. Hillblom Foundation<\/a>, untersucht die Zusammenh\u00e4nge zwischen altersbedingten Ver\u00e4nderungen der Mitochondrien (den Kraftwerken der Zelle), dem neuronalen Stoffwechsel und dem kognitiven Verfall. Reynolds und seine Kollegen haben auch damit begonnen, die Ver\u00e4nderungen der Gehirnanatomie aufzudecken, die zu kognitivem Verfall f\u00fchren und das Gehirn f\u00fcr neurodegenerative Erkrankungen wie Alzheimer pr\u00e4disponieren k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n
