Salk Fellows sind unabh\u00e4ngige Gruppenleiter und werden f\u00fcr einen Zeitraum von zun\u00e4chst drei Jahren ernannt, an den sich eine zweij\u00e4hrige Verl\u00e4ngerung anschlie\u00dfen kann.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n Dmitry Lyumkis, Salks erster Fellow in diesem neuen Programm, trat am 1. Juli dem Salk bei <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.scripps.edu\/\">Das Scripps Research Institute<\/a> und hat bahnbrechende Innovationen in der biologischen Bildgebung entwickelt. Er nutzt die Einzelteilchen-Kryo-Elektronenmikroskopie - eine Spitzentechnologie, die die Visualisierung gro\u00dfer Proteine und Proteinkomplexe unter nahezu nat\u00fcrlichen Bedingungen erm\u00f6glicht - um dreidimensionale Modelle der abgebildeten Objekte zu erstellen. Die daraus resultierenden 3D-Modelle, die nun bei ausgew\u00e4hlten Proben mit nahezu atomarer Aufl\u00f6sung aufgel\u00f6st werden k\u00f6nnen, erm\u00f6glichen ein besseres Verst\u00e4ndnis der Proteinfunktion und enth\u00fcllen manchmal lange gesuchte Hinweise in der Strukturbiologie.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nDiese Technik bietet mehrere Vorteile gegen\u00fcber der R\u00f6ntgenkristallographie, die die wichtigste Technik zur Untersuchung von Proteinstrukturen war, sagt Lyumkis.
