Sie konzentrierte sich auf CA19-9, eine komplexe Zuckermolek\u00fclstruktur, die viele Proteine umgibt, der aber zuvor keine besondere Funktion zugeschrieben worden war. Ein einzelnes Enzym steuert den letzten Schritt der Produktion von CA19-9 beim Menschen, dieses Enzym fehlt jedoch bei Nagetieren. Engle z\u00fcchtete M\u00e4use, die CA19-9 produzierten, und stellte \u00fcberraschenderweise fest, dass die M\u00e4use schwere Bauchspeicheldr\u00fcsenentz\u00fcndungen entwickelten. Engles Ergebnisse positionieren CA19-9 als attraktives therapeutisches Ziel f\u00fcr Bauchspeicheldr\u00fcsenentz\u00fcndungen.<\/p>\n<p>Bei M\u00e4usen rekrutiert CA19-9 das Immunsystem zur Reparatur von Bauchspeicheldr\u00fcsenentz\u00fcndungen. Engle stellte fest, dass CA19-9 w\u00e4hrend dieses Rekrutierungsprozesses auch eine Kaskade biochemischer Reaktionen ausl\u00f6sen kann, die durch die Freisetzung sch\u00e4dlicher Verdauungsenzyme aus der Bauchspeicheldr\u00fcse angetrieben wird. Diese Kaskade \u00f6ffnet ein transformatives Tor f\u00fcr die Krebsentstehung, und Engle wies auch nach, dass CA19-9 das Wachstum von Bauchspeicheldr\u00fcsenkrebs stark beschleunigen kann.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPankreatitis ist Voraussetzung f\u00fcr die Entstehung von Bauchspeicheldr\u00fcsenkrebs, und wir k\u00f6nnten m\u00f6glicherweise diesen \u00dcbergang bei Patienten mit Pankreatitis verhindern, indem wir auf CA19-9 abzielen\u201d, vermutete Engle. \u201cIndem wir in Tiermodellen mit Antik\u00f6rpern auf CA19-9 abzielten, konnten wir die Schwere der Pankreatitis reduzieren und sogar verhindern, dass sie auftritt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eine von CSHL eingereichte Patentanmeldung, die die Verwendung von CA19-9-Antik\u00f6rpern zur Behandlung und Vorbeugung von Bauchspeicheldr\u00fcsenentz\u00fcndungen abdeckt, wurde exklusiv an BioNTech, ein deutsches Biotech-Unternehmen, lizenziert.<\/p>\n<p>Diese Forschung wurde von der Lustgarten Foundation, Pancreatic Cancer UK, den National Institutes of Health (NIH) und der Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Association finanziert.<\/p>\n<p><em>Pressematerialien mit freundlicher Genehmigung des Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00dcber das Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Das 1890 gegr\u00fcndete Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory hat die zeitgen\u00f6ssische biomedizinische Forschung und Lehre mit Programmen in den Bereichen Krebs, Neurowissenschaften, Pflanzenbiologie und quantitative Biologie gepr\u00e4gt.
