Der Sloan Prize wird f\u00fcr den herausragendsten j\u00fcngsten Beitrag in der Grundlagenforschung zur Krebsforschung verliehen.<\/p>\n<p>Evans teilt sich beide Preise mit Pierre Chambon, MD, Direktor des Instituts f\u00fcr Genetik und zellul\u00e4re und molekulare Biologie in Stra\u00dfburg, Frankreich, f\u00fcr ihre Arbeit bei der Entdeckung nukle\u00e4rer Hormonrezeptoren, der Aufdeckung ihrer Struktur und Funktion sowie der Definition ihrer zentralen Rolle in der menschlichen Physiologie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDas ist eine gro\u00dfe Ehre f\u00fcr mich, und ich bin besonders dankbar f\u00fcr die fortlaufende Unterst\u00fctzung meiner Arbeit durch die March of Dimes und General Motors\u201d, sagte Evans. \u201cDiese Preise werden den Fortschritt unserer Bem\u00fchungen, zu verstehen, wie Fettleibigkeit, Herzkrankheiten, Diabetes und Krebs entstehen, weiter vorantreiben, und ich glaube, dass sie uns eines Tages eine erfolgreiche Behandlung f\u00fcr diese t\u00f6dlichen Erkrankungen erm\u00f6glichen werden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> Evans reiht sich ein in eine Liste bemerkenswerter Wissenschaftler, die seit Beginn des Programms durch die March of Dimes im Jahr 1996 mit dem Preis ausgezeichnet wurden, einschlie\u00dflich Sydney Brenner vom Salk Institute, der den Preis im letzten Jahr erhielt. Die March of Dimes rief den Preis ins Leben als Ehrung f\u00fcr Dr. Jonas Salk.<\/p>\n<p>Evans wurde f\u00fcr die Erschlie\u00dfung neuer Forschungsgebiete in der Maschinerie von Hormonen und Zellphysiologie ausgezeichnet. Seine Arbeit zeigt, dass diese scheinbar unterschiedlichen Aspekte der Physiologie im K\u00f6rper eine \u00e4hnliche molekulare Logik zur Steuerung nutzen. Seine Forschung legt auch spezifische Wege nahe, wie Chemie bei der Entwicklung zugelassener Medikamente wie Targretin und Panretin eingesetzt werden kann, die zur Bek\u00e4mpfung bestimmter Krebsarten sowie bei experimentellen Therapeutika f\u00fcr Diabetes im Kindes- und Erwachsenenalter sowie bei Fettleibigkeit, Herzerkrankungen und chronischen Entz\u00fcndungen eingesetzt werden.
