Biophotonics is an interdisciplinary, rapidly emerging field that comprises different yet complimentary areas:
The current roster of biophotonics faculty at Salk reflects this diversity and synergism. It comprises experts in high-resolution microscopy and probe development, computational data analysis and modeling, as well as molecular and genetic engineering. Faculty research programs focus on both development and application of new technologies to find innovative solutions to a wide range of fundamental problems in life sciences.
In addition to their track record of outstanding individual performance (see Publications and Intellectual Property), these investigators are highly interactive both nationally and internationally. In the below interactome, for example, each line marks either a joint research article or grant. Between 2011 and 2019, there have been over 20 cross-disciplinary publications between Salk biophotonics faculty.
