Research in Dr. Perrin's group focuses on receptors and binding proteins for hypothalamic releasing factors, specifically for corticotropin releasing factor (CRF). The primary goal is the elucidation of roles of the receptor in both normal physiology and pathophysiology. Dr. Perrin's work focuses on understanding the mechanism of receptor action at a molecular level. The studies begin with cloning of the receptors and related proteins, proceed to the characterization of their binding and signaling properties and culminate in determination of their 3-dimensional structure. These studies employ techniques of molecular and cell biology as well as those of physical chemistry (NMR, in collaboration with Dr. Roland Riek, Structural Biology Laboratory).
