About Salk Cancer Center

The Salk Cancer Center was established in 1970 as a basic research cancer center by the National Cancer Institute. Since then our studies have uncovered the roles played by viruses, genetics, and cell regulation in cancer and helped lead to new therapies including the highly successful leukemia drug, Gleevec.

The Center's Faculty has been recognized with major awards including the Nobel Prize, the Albert Lasker Prize, and the Gairdner Foundation International Award. Several center faculty are members of the National Academy of Sciences.

In March 2013 the Salk Cancer Center, the UCSD Moores Cancer Center, and the Sanford Burnham Cancer Center joined to form the San Diego National Cancer Institute Cancer Centers Council (SD NCI C3). This novel collaboration leverages each center's distinct and combined resources and talents to accelerate discovery and therapeutics for cancer. Your donation will support research in these cancer centers.
