Wahl Lab - Personnel

Principal Investigator

Geoffrey M. Wahl, Ph.D. In 1970, Dr. Wahl was awarded his B.A. in Bacteriology from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1976, he received a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from Harvard University. He was a Research Assistant at the University of Utah from 1975 to 1976 and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University from 1976 to 1979. He then joined the Salk Institute as an Assistant Professor in the Molecular Biology and Virology Laboratory. Dr. Wahl received his present appointment as Professor in the Gene Expression Laboratory in 1989. Research Associates

	Yao-Cheng (Leo) Li, Ph.D. graduated with a B. S. in Plant Pathology, 1992 from National Chung-Hsing University and a M.S. in Biochemistry, 1994 from the National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan. 	Miranda Cox, Ph.D. Graduated with a B.Sc. Hons in Biological Science from the University of Exeter in 2007 and with a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from the University of Dundee in 2011. She will be focusing on the p53 tumour suppressor pathway, its role in disease and its potential for exploitation in cancer therapy. Miranda joined the Wahl Lab in 2011.
	Jennifer Green, Ph.D. joined the Wahl lab in 2010.
	Jennifer C. Lin, Ph.D. obtained a B.S. in 1997 in Biotechnology from Rutgers University, New Jersey. In 2003, She received a Ph.D. in Molecular and Developmental Biology from Stony Brook University, New York. She was a postdoctoral fellow at The Scripps Research Institute from 2003-2006. 	Benjamin T. Spike, Ph.D. carried out his undergraduate studies in Southern California and in Goettingen, Germany, receiving his Bachelor’s degrees in European History and Molecular Biology from the University of California, San Diego in 1997. He went on to receive his M.S. in Biology under the mentorship of Dr. Wahl in 1998. And after earning a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the University of Chicago in the summer of 2007, Ben returned to the Wahl Lab. Benjamin T. Spike CV
	Yunyuan (Vivian) Wang, Ph.D. graduated from the Penn State University in 2005 with a Ph D. In the same year, she joined the Wahl Lab. Her research focuses on using mouse models to study the role of Mdmx in the p53 regulatory pathway. Yunyuan (Vivian) Wang CV

Dannielle Engle graduated from Northwestern University in 2005 with a BA in Biological Sciences. After starting her Ph.D. program at UCSD, she joined the Wahl Lab in the spring of 2006.

Technicians and Assistants

	Daniel Young Kim is an undergraduate student at UCSD . Daniel joined the Wahl lab in 2009.
	Annabelle Kraus is a first year undergraduate at UCSD and is majoring in Pharmacological Chemistry. Annabelle joined the lab in February 2011.
	Justin La graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 2010 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. He joined the Wahl Lab in April 2008.
	Julia Lipianskaya is a third year undergraduate student at UCSD, majoring in Biochemistry & Cell Biology. Julia joined the Wahl Lab in October 2010.
	Rose Rodewald (Lab Manager) is from P.R. China. Rose graduated from Shanghai University, P.R. China in Chemical Engineering. She also graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 1996 with a B.S. in Biology. Rose joined the Wahl Lab in 1995.
	Brian (Kyu Won) Yum is an undergraduate student at UCSD . Brian joined the Wahl lab in 2009.
	Wei Yue (Lisa) Zeng is a second-year undergraduate at UCSD, majoring in human biology. Lisa joined the Wahl lab in May 2010.

Taneashia R. Morrell graduated from Point Loma Nazarene College in 1996, with a B.A. in Sociology and Criminal Justice. Ms. Morrell joined the Wahl Lab in 1994.
