Sunna Bohlen's Among the Stones Now on DisplayThe Salk Institute hosted an opening reception on Feb. 17 for it's latest exhibit, Among the Stones, Works by Sunna Bohlen, which will remain on display through June 2009.
"Sunna Bohlen's luminous canvases evoke a sensation of misty atmospheres of light and color that beckon viewers to linger in a space between emotion and serenity," said Mel Yoakum, curator and director of the F. Gilot Archives, who gave an engaging presentation, titled Sunna Bohlen: Art and the Creative Mind, prior to the reception.
Born and raised in Korea, Bohlen began painting and writing poetry at a very young age before she moved to San Diego when she was 22. She married former Salk researcher Peter Bohlen and continued painting as his cancer research took them to Switzerland and New York.
An active San Diego philanthropist and former Board member of the San Diego Opera Association, Bohlen's pieces currently on display at Salk represent some of her latest abstract work. For more on the artist and her work, visit www.salk.edu.
