San Diego salkexcellerators spend special evening with Dr. Geoff Wahl
In his presentation, Wahl explained how his research tries to determine, at the molecular level, the various ways cancer originates and progresses and why tumors become resistant to even the most powerful anti-cancer drugs—research that could lead to new strategies and drugs to treat and even cure the disease. A professor in the Gene Expression Laboratory and former president of the American Association for Cancer Research, Wahl offered unique insights into the disease, which is the second leading cause of death in the U.S., declaring, "I see significant opportunities for advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment as our knowledge of the molecular biology of cancer increases."
